Dear Class,
I would like us to tackle more challenging material and incorporate the readings with our in-class exercises. As such, please turn in the speech that you would have given for the upcoming class. For those who missed on Thursday, the assignment is below. You are to write a speech that addresses the issues involved and provide that to me prior to the start of this week's class, March 13th. Please do not post the homework on the blog.
Also, please read through Section V (as in Victory) in the A to Z book.
Thanks,
Jason
Homework
It is July 5, 2008, and you were just hired to come to (name the state or congressional district) to manage one of the hottest races of the cycle.
Your candidate (name them) has gone through three campaign managers and two sets of consultants. He/she promises you are the last hire he/she plans to make.
You are getting ready to call your first staff meeting. As you walk around the office, there is a distinctly negative vibe. You overhear the press secretary tell her boyfriend that she “may be home soon.” You see another staffer preparing a resume.
The candidate seems to understand where he or she went wrong in the past. The consultants, on for the past 2 months, seem hopeful. The polls, however, show a downward trend. Your opponent went up early on broadcast TV and has opened a 12-point lead (51-39).
Knowing what you have read, and what you believe, please write and submit your remarks to me prior to next Thursday’s class.
